What makes it special

Why couples choose it

Wooded grounds and approach to the former Akagane Residence

01 / 03

A gate, a lane, then silence

The approach matters here. Guests walk the stone path from below Yasaka Pagoda, pass through the gate, and arrive somewhere that feels nothing like the street they just left.

AKAGANE hall with copper accents and peacock motifs

02 / 03

Copper as the signature

Bronze and red copper run through the building - roof, gutters, interior accents, peacock motifs in the AKAGANE hall. It gives photographs a warmth that white-walled venues cannot.

KIWAMI chef's table for eleven, finished in Nishijin textiles

03 / 03

An eleven-seat chef's table

KIWAMI seats eleven facing a garden, finished in Nishijin textiles. For couples wanting a very small dinner the night before, or a private family meal after the ceremony.

About the venue

The full picture

Akagane Resort was built in 1925 as the private residence of the owner of one of Japan's leading copper processing companies - a family business trading since the Edo period, roughly 250 years. Akagane means copper, and the roof, gutters and detailing throughout are worked in it.

The house stands on a sloping wooded site below Yasaka Pagoda, reached by a stone-paved lane and a formal gate. Once inside, the noise of Higashiyama disappears entirely, which is the point: it is a private estate in the middle of Kyoto's busiest sightseeing district.
